For 2020/21 period
PLEASE
NOTE: Due to exceptional demand for our services, we no longer
accept samples without prior registration/advice.
We have
introduced a scheduling system;
Soil
samples - samples received Monday to Friday one week, are dried over
weekend, and
processed Monday and Tuesday; reports generated on Wednesday.
Water
samples -first and
last week of each month.
Manure and compost samples -second and third week of each
month.
Analyses outside this schedule can be arranged by contacting
laboratory manager.
We no longer conduct plant analysis.

Purpose:
A suite of tests
specifically tailored for consultants in the design of on-site wastewater
management options
Sampling requirements:
From an augered borehole,
or soil profile excavation, sample each of up to three horizons. Take
a sample from each horizon and bag separately in labelled plastic bags. A
good double handful of soil is required for each sample. The following
analyses will be conducted:

Electrical conductivity (1:5 water), salinity hazard, major
cations (Ca, Mg, K, Na), Exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), Ca/Mg
ratio, Exchangeable Acidity (H+, Al3+),
cation exchange capacity (CEC), soil colour, soil texture, aggregate
stability, assessment for irrigation application or trench disposal.

in the design of on-site wastewater systems for the relevant state
guidelines.

SOIL PERMEABILITY
TESTING
Purpose:
Soil columns are packed with previously air-dried and sieved (<2 mm) soil,
to a bulk density similar to the original soil body. Using a constant head
approach, the soil columns are treated with rain water in four columns as a
control while six test columns are treated with effluent of a known source
(bore water, coal seam gas water, septic effluent, laundry water or others).
Over many days the through-flow of water is measured and a time-related
hydraulic conductivity is obtained. It is usual that the percolation
continues over several days.

Sample requirements: Soil sample
size is 5 kg per run, and effluent volume 20 L per soil. Total run is 10
replicates, as shown.
Synthesised effluent may
be used where particular properties need to be tested, such as laundry
water, or effluent with a particular sodium adsorption ratio.
Cost: contact laboratory for specific quotation after discussing
actual testing regime.

requirements. Staff of Lanfax Laboratories will liaise with Council, on your behalf, with
respect to services provided and the outcome of your testing program. It is usual that
Council requires three tests immediately after connection to the sewer and then on a
regular one test per annum basis.
